treat the minor burns with home remedies

A burn is a very traumatic injury. It happens when heat gets transferred to the skin which can cause by fire, steam, electricity or any other kind of heat. Burns on less than 10% of the body surface is usually considered minor. Generally minor burns happen on top layers of the skin making the area red and painful.



Minor burns can lead to painful blisters due to lack of proper treatment on time. In case of a minor or first degree burn, you can try some natural remedies that can minimize the pain.

 Clean the burn with water 


Initially , clean the affected area with fresh clean water. After that you may follow the remedies whatever you want.

Home remedies for Minor Burns :

1.Honey


When suffering from a burn, honey can surely be used to get some relief. Honey can successfully disinfect wounds and heal burns. When honey is applied to a burn, it draws out fluids from the tissues and thus cleaning the burned area. Put honey on a gauze bandage and then apply it directly on the burn. 

2.Aloe Vera


For treating minor and first degree burns you can apply fresh aloe vera juice or aloe vera gel. Aloe vera has painkilling, astringent and tissue-healing properties that can help in healing the burned area. But before using aloe vera, you must treat the affected area with cold water. Simply cut a small piece of the aloe vera leaf, and apply the fresh gel directly on the burn. If you do not have fresh aloe vera plant at your home, you can even apply a cream having the goodness of aloe vera.

3.Egg White


To treat minor burns at home you can also use egg whites. Take egg white of one or two eggs depending upon the size of the burn. Coat the burned area in egg white and allow it to dry naturally. As long as the egg white is wet you will feel no pain. When the egg white dries up, reapply fresh egg whites on the burned area. It will fasten the healing process and will also reduce the chance of scarring.

4. Raw Potato


Raw potato can also be used to treat minor skin burns due to its anti-irritating and soothing properties. Simply cut a slice of raw potato and rub it on the burn, making sure the juice of potato is touching the area. It will alleviate the pain from a minor burn and will reduce the chance of having blisters. You need to follow this remedy soon after the burn for better result.

5. Plantain Leaves


Plantain leaves (Arati aakulu in telugu) is a popular remedy for treating burns. Plantain leaves are enriched with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-hemorrhagic, and expectorant properties. Take some fresh plantain leaves and crush them to get the juice and then rub the juice directly onto the burn. Else hit the leaf gently with a small heavy object and then wrap the leaf around the affected area. 

6. Vinegar


The astringent and antiseptic properties present in vinegar can be very helpful in treating minor burns and preventing any kind of infection. Dilute any kind of vinegar present in your house with equal amount of water, and then use the solution to rinse the burned area. This remedy will work as a painkiller and will also relax your skin tissue. Later on you can cover the injured area with a cloth, soaked in diluted vinegar. Change the cloth for a fresh one in every two to three hours.

7.Tea Bags


Any time you suffer from a minor burn, your regular tea bag can come to your rescue. The tannic acid present in black tea can help in drawing the heat from a burn and thus reducing the pain. Take three tea bags and put in a mug of cool water and after a few minutes collect the tea and dab it gently on the burn area. Else you can even put cold and wet tea bags directly on the burn and wrap them with a piece of gauze to hold them in place. This remedy will also give you much relief.

8. Coconut oil



In case of minor burns, apply some Coconut oil straight onto the burned skin. This will give you immediate relief as this herbal oil has got both antiseptic and painkilling properties. The oil will also reduce the risk of scarring. You can also pour Coconut oil onto a gauze or clean cloth, and then apply it directly to the burn injury. The cloth should be replaced with a new one in every two to three hours. Apply this herbal oil several times a day to treat your burn injury.

The above mentioned burn remedies are for minor and first degree burns only. For serious burns you should visit a doctor as such cases require professional attention.
